Subject: Pesticides: a "clean" life style will not stop childhood cancer

Letter to the editor, Sat. Nov. 5, Saskatoon Star Phoenix.
Old-timers in our network will recognize Donna's name from other powerful
statements she has made in the past:

IN RESPONSE TO CANCER CRISIS LOOMS, OCT 22/05

To encourage people to improve their lifestyles is valid but that alone
is & will not be effective in preventing cancer. We have multitudes of
individuals who
live model lifestyles & still develop cancer.

Clearly, eating your veggies, exercise & refraining from smoking is not
enough. Cancer is North America's #1 disease killer of children. We live in
a society
where babies are born with cancer. This is a wake-up call.

It is time to quit denying our human form as we are not meant to live in a
world of toxicity.
Until we take the focus from cure  and 'for profit' research and do some
serious
surveillance, investigation & begin legislating carcinogens out of the
environment we will not 'win the war on cancer'.

For me to maintain the consensual silence of the inadequacy of our current
cancer strategies is a betrayal of my deceased child and every other
deceased cancer victim who is unable to speak for themselves.

The first step in solving a problem is acknowledging it exists.
